Chelugui richest Cabinet nominee with Sh796m net worth, Tobiko at Sh360m – report

Simon Chelugui is the richest among the eight Cabinet Secretary nominees with a Sh796 million net worth, a Parliamentary report has revealed.

The report was tabled in the Nation Assembly by the Committee on Appointments after concluding the vetting of those nominated by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The committee report states that the former Betting Control and Licencing Board chairman's source of wealth is real estate, moveable assets, and farming.

Former DPP Keriako Tobiko follows the proposed Water CS at Sh360 million.

Tobiko, who is Cabinet Secretary nominee for Environment, said the money is from his investments in real estate, agriculture and livestock.

Ex-Meru governor Peter Munya emerged the third richest in the group with Sh264,100,00 while Farida Karoney (Lands) stated that she is worth Sh200 million.

In the report, Karoney says she has investments in real estate, shares and farming. Former Turkana Senator John Munyes stated that he is worth Sh50million.

Outgoing Public Service Commission chairperson Margaret Kobia is worth Sh50million and so is Foreign Affairs CS nominee Monica Juma.

Rashid told the committee that his networth stands at Sh40 million.

The report is set to be discussed in a plenary after which those whose nominations will be approved will be forwarded to the president for appointment.
